Description

Cassia absus is a herb common in India It is found in mainly in western parts of India.It is found every where in India. From western Himalayas to Sri-Lanka it grows freely. It is found all over the world in the tropical region. It is sticky plant that attains a height of about 1-2 foot. There is present a nodule in the axel of the leaf. Leaves are of biter and astringent in nature. Flowers are one to two inch in length. It bears seeds that are 5 in number and flat with shiny texture. The seed pulp is yellowish in color. The seed pulp contains1.5% Chaksine and Isochaksine. These are the major constituents that are water soluble. Seeds also contain various oils. There is also present various alkaloids and minerals like calcium, phosphorous, iron and zinc. Besides these it also contains vitamins like thiamine and riboflavin.

A plaster made from seeds is recommended as an application to wounds and sores. It is used as a cathartic in habitual constipation. It is very helpful in urinary tract disorders and acts as diuretic. It finds it application when it is used locally. Its alkaline nature helps in scrapping of the extended skin. It is also helpful in reducing the swelling and is effective in eye ailments. It also prevents hemorrhages. It is also helpful in reducing body fats. It is very effective in skin related problems. It is also helpful n elimination of poison from the body. In Ayurveda the leaves and the seeds are used for treatment of anemia, asthma and hiccups.
